DISCOVERED: #WhoIsInPopsBoudoir?
Special thanks to The New Orleans Jazz Museum and Instagram user "Third Class Relic" for discovering the origins of "Betty Lyons Society Dancers" by Joseph "Pops" Whitesell.
"On May 27th and 28th of 1927, Betty Lyons directed a Grecian inspired dance performance on the lawn of Mrs. Jack Lyons' St. Charles Ave. residence. Maidens in long flowing robes danced to the strains of soft music under shaded lights. Shattering illusion and coming down to realities these maids, vested of their robes, were none other than the pupils of Betty Lyons Sanchez..." Pupils listed are Rai, Miss Jimmy Hay, and Gretchen Page. The article also mentions another unnamed girl.
