Formed in 2011, The Asylum Chorus (originally St. Cecilia's Asylum Chorus) was slated to perform a one-off performance at New Orleans' Preservation Hall. After the first performance, the intensity of the musical connection led the members of the chorus to decide to start building something more out of the pet project. The Asylum Chorus pulls its repertoire from a deep well of American vocal traditions and also surprises their audiences with creative twists on modern pop tunes. Mostly comprised of professional pop and classical vocalists, The Asylum Chorus also derives its unique sound by incorporating vocalists whose primary instruments are something other than voice. This unique blend of vocalists gives The Asylum Chorus an authentic, rootsy sound. In the few short years that the group has been together, they have risen quickly through the musical circles of New Orleans, playing at several French Quarter Festivals, Voodoo Fest and regular shows at Preservation Hall, Buffa's, Spotted Cat Music Club, Gasa Gasa and DBA.
