While the gates to 726 St. Peter are closed, the 60 musicians who make up the Preservation Hall Musical Collective are without work and in need of support. Thanks to our amazing donors and partners like Feed the Second Line, our musicians are able to receive weekly financial assistance and grocery items, farmer’s market produce and hot meals delivered to their doorstep.

Founded by the beloved Mardi Gras group Krewe of Red Beans, the team at Feed the Second Line aims to keep New Orleans culture bearers, like brass band musicians, Mardi Gras Indians and members of the Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs safe at home during this pandemic. The initiative employs out-of-work musicians to deliver food purchased from local restaurants and grocery partners, straight to the homes of elder culture bearers all over the city.

The program has allowed our culture bearers and their caretakers to minimize their exposure to COVID, conserve funds spent on food and save precious time usually spent on meal prep, all while maintaining a healthy and balanced diet.

Keep scrolling to enjoy the amazing portraits captured by photographer Katie Sikora, of members of our Collective at home who are benefitting from the program. As the folks at Feed the Second Line work to continue providing this vital service, they need our help. To show your support by making a donation, please visit feedthesecondline.org!
