Residency With Young Musicians From Havana, Cuba's Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán

The Preservation Hall Foundation, in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and Horns To Havana, will host the students of the renowned music conservatory in Havana, Cuba, Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán.

The Amadeo Roldán Conservatory is Cuba’s premier academy of music. The school was founded in 1903 and is located in a lovely neoclassical building in Central Havana, where it has been housed since 1942. Distinguished alumnae include Gonzalo Roig, Diego Bonilla and the great composer, orchestra leader and musician Amadeo Roldán, for whom the school is named. The school has trained many of Cuba’s most gifted musicians. Its influence extends around the world.

The students will explore the culture and heritage of New Orleans, take part in interactive workshops with numerous members of the Preservation Hall music collective at Preservation Hall and they will perform a special concert with members of Preservation Hall Jazz Band on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at The George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center

In December 2015, the Preservation Hall Foundation and Preservation Hall Jazz Band traveled to Cuba and worked with students from the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory, and we are honored to host the talented group in New Orleans.
